A graduate of the University of San Diego, her previous sportscasting experiences include positions at MLB Network, New England Sports Network in Boston, Time Warner Cable SportsNet in Los Angeles, and two stations in Fresno. Watney was a Clovis West High School student in Fresno. She was a participant in gymnastics and hurdles as well as diving and diving. One of her achievements was being an National Merit Scholar and attended the University of San Diego on an academic scholarship. she graduated with honors in 2003. Watney was a contestant in Miss California USA 2002, which she won as the first third place. Watney is the sister of professional golfer Nick Watney.
